Moving to aston, pa (southeastern , pa) soon. Trying to find info on the ordinances of that township. I would love to have a few chickens for fresh eggs and as a teaching tool for my child. Plus we love animals! ! Any info would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to get them then have to get rid of them. Thx in advance.

Hi there! Welcome to BYC. You'll find a lot of support and experienced advice here.

For now, do as much research as you can. Do the basic Google searches, e.g. "How to raise chickens" and read as many articles as you can. If you read something that confuses you or makes you want to ask a question, write it down somewhere and Google further on the subject.

There are also 3 books I will recommend to every new chicken keeper. They are one of the most worthwhile investments you can make when getting into chickens.

- Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Damerow

- The Chicken Health Handbook by Gail Damerow

- Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds

Hello and Welcome to Backyard chickens

No need to google - most questions will end up being linked to BYC. Best place to start is the Learning Center from there the various forums should cover every thing you want to know about chickens and other poultry.

You may want to post on your state thread and ask if anyone knows of any restrictions on poultry in your future town. You could also phone the township village hall.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on drumstick diva's advice. Your city hall should be able to tell you whether or not chickens are allowed in Aston. Also, if you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting chickens.

x3 on Drumstick Diva's advice...most any question you do a search for will just lead you back here anyway so you may as well stick with us! There is a ton of information available on BYC and many friendly, helpful members that are willing to share their experience. Start with the Learning Center, use the Search feature in the upper left corner of every screen, ask questions and make yourself at home.

It's nice having you join us!
