Hi everyone!

Found this site and knew I had to join. I recently retired and decided to add seven chickens to my life. I have four Rhode Island Reds and three Barre Rocks. They are just about ready to lay. As a youngster we had about a dozen hens and a couple of roosters. So I do have some experience although quite a way back.

I just came back from putting in an outside of coop laying box. I took a small dog carrier that I have and filled it with straw. They also have two laying boxes in the coop. It will be interesting to see which they use most.

Looking forward to fresh eggs and learning along the way.

Best wishes to everybody.

Welcome to BYC ! I put two deep supers from my bee hives in the coop for nest boxes . The chickens took to them like a bear to honey , Plus I can just lift them, the hay falls out and clean the whole coop . They don't have a bottom . Good luck .
That is a great idea. As a former beekeeper, I now wish that I had a couple deep supers around.
