Hi all new to this site I'm kristy.
This morning our chicken got attacked by a dog causing a small puncture in back with huge bald feather loss - was bleeding. Put some cornflour into wound, separated from other 2 chooks anything else we should be doing??

Welcome to BYC!

So sorry to hear about your bird's injury. Unfortunately, dogs hurt/kill a lot of chickens, they like to "play" with them.

Put some antibiotic on the wound to prevent infection and make sure she's drinking and eating (some electrolytes would probably be helpful). You did the right thing to remove her from the other chickens. You can post a photo of her injury over on this thread to get additional help:

Hope she's healed soon and safeguards are put in place to prevent further injuries.

Nice to have you join us.

I hope your bird makes a full recovery.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry about your hen, X2 on post in the Emergencies forum with pictures if you can, make sure you keep the bird in a warm spot.

You could flush the wound with saline solution and then use neosporine ( NO caine) to prevent infection and help healing. Usually a puncture wound that bleeds will not get infected but, keep an eye out just in case. You also don't want flies laying eggs in the wound. Maggots cause more damage than the initial wound.
