Hi! I've liked this page for a while on facebook and thought I would join. It's really nice looking around on here, I've learned a lot.
I just got my chickens a couple weeks ago, 2) 1 year old Silkies and 2) 3 month old Frizzles.
They're awesome, I love them all, but I noticed the white silkie's nostrils doesn't look like the other one's, so I'm trying to figure out how to help her. It looks like they're crusty, can I clean them out? And how? Thanks

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Good luck with your cute silkies! I would try gently wiping the crusty stuff off with a wet rag. Give her some pain garlic and some ACV in her water. If this doesn't cease then she probably has a bacterial or respiratory infection.

You should ask here if this doesn't cease. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

Welcome to BYC!!

Yeah those look quite crusty. I'm not sure if they can but maybe she has pollen allergies and makes her nose run? :/ And like Mountain Peeps said, try wiping her beak down with a damp towel. Also make sure she doesn't rub her nose on anything like a rough tree or muddy ground.

Thanks, I don't know if she has allergies, she looked like that when I bought her...I knew she looked different than the other one and it's been bothering me. Hopefully I can clean it out myself and she'll be much happier too!
I'll let y'all know tomorrow night if it works. Nighty nite for now

Welcome to BYC! Mountain Peeps has given you some good advice. I hope your White Silkie's nasal discharge clears up. Good luck with your flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Mountain Peeps X2 She could have some sort of respiratory ailment or possibly just a dirty beak. Get the beak and nostrils all cleaned up and then watch her. If it returns or you see her with a runny nose, you might want to get her started on some Duramycin antibiotics in her water. This med usually clears up most respiratory ailments.

Good luck and I hope she is ok.
