Hello fellow backyard chickens.I have true Araucana that I hatched and I have to many roosters they are silver duck wing's about a year old I have 5 roosters and 1 hen I would like to purchase 5 hens!!

Welcome to BYC! The recommended roo to hen ratio is 1 roo to 10 hens, so you might want to either get more than 5 hens or sell some of the roosters. Good luck! :)

Yours is a familiar story...too many roos, not enough hens. Yorkshire coop has given you a good idea about the buy-sell-trade forum (you can use it once you have 20 posts). There is also a free re-homing section to that forum that might be worth checking out.

Good luck!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. X2 on that 1 rooster for every 10 hen ratio. As they mature and their hormones kick in, too many roosters will become very hard physically on your hens, over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, causing a drop of in lay rate, and potentially, seriously injuring them. The only reason your really need a rooster is to fertilize eggs for hatching and 1 rooster can easily handle 10-15 hens in that regard. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.
