Hi, I'm Kelsey, and here's my chicken saga. My family and I got our first pullet chicks in early March- 2 Easter Eggers and 2 Speckled Sussex. 3 of the 4 turned out to be roosters. So in early June, we started again with a new Bielefelder chick, Easter egger chick and a cream Brabanter pullet. When trying to incorporate the younger and older pullets, the bielefelder was killed by the older chickens. So in early August, I exchanged the Brabanter for 3 more Bielefelder chicks, then got 6 ISA Browns from our local tractor supply the next day. Last Saturday I got another 2 Speckled Sussex chicks 4 days old, for a grand total of 13 chickens. Our original EE started laying 1 1/2 weeks ago, the next oldest should start in early October, then the little chicks in January-February next year. I'm glad to have BYC as a resource!

That is sad. Next time you want to integrate new birds with older folk, please check out "Look but don't touch method of integration." It's the kindest, gentlest way.

Thanks, I will. I was heartbroken over my Bielefelder, she was the sweetest most friendly girl. I have 9 chicks that are 3-4 weeks old and 2 that are almost a week old, so there will be much integrating in the near future. I'm considering converting a dog crate into a brooder for the chicks and putting it inside the big coop.
