My husband and I purchased a derelict Farm in Tennessee two years ago, and this was actually our first spring here. We are new to chickens and purchased 10 sex link hens and 1 Buff Orpington rooster the middle of June. They were about 8 weeks old. Not my first choice but they were available and priced right. One of the hens has been laying for 4 days and we anticipate the others will in the next few weeks. My daughter and her husband also live on the farm and brought home 3 adult laying hens this past Friday evening, after the resident chickens were already roosting for the night. We put the new girls in the coop with no apparent upset. All 3 laid an egg on Saturday but none today (Sunday). They won't leave the hen house though. They are eating and drinking but the other hens are mean to them. Should I be concerned?

They will adjust... no worries..

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow You'll definitely want to checkout our Tennessee thread and if you happen to be in middle-Tennessee our local thread. Your girls will work it out, just give them some time. Watch for blood, if one does get bloody, treat by cleaning the wound and covering with blue-kote. Again welcome and glad you're joining us. If you like me to introduce you to the other two threads, I'd be happy to.:ya

Generally you have a period of integration with new birds to old. The kindest, gentlest way is " the look but don't touch" method of integration. You should be able to find it via the searchbox. Chickens are very territorial and adding new birds shakes up the "pecking order," which chickens take very seriously.

Welcome aboard! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.
