Hello everyone!! I am fairly new to the chicken world. We have raised peeps from just a few days old for the last 2 years. I am now trying my hand at hatching. First time was a fail. Trying now a second time. We had almost 40 chickens until something got into our coop a few months ago and almost wiped us out. Slowly rebuilding our flock. We have a few guineas also. Any advice for hatching? Thank!

In my experience
Get one rooster per 10 to 15 hens
Incubate the eggs as fresh as possible and less than 5 days old
Don't use eggs sent over the post if possible
Get a good full automatic incubator
Use electric hen
During incubation keep the incubator in a room with steady temperature not under direct sunlight.
when hatched keep the chicks in a safe secure place, as a role of thumb if there is a way they can hurt themselves or get themselves in troubles they will. keep an eye on water, they fill it with whatever bedding you use and if deep they drown in it.
If you are using a broody hen, it is hit-and-miss
Good luck
