(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We have been keeping chickens for many years. We now have geese. I need to make a new home for the geese.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have four chickens: two roosters we are boarding for our neighbor who raises Sumtaller and Blue Morans. Our rooster is a Polish, the hen is a Red Star. The geese are Toulouse: 2 gooses and one gander.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? I have checked in on this site for many hints over the last couple of years.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? My wife raises Morgan horses (not a hobby). I cross country ski, hunt, fish, and coach youth sports.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My wife and I are teachers a second career; we are both retired Army officers.

Greetings and welcome to BYC from NE TX! So glad you joined us. Thanks for yours & your wife's service from a retired Navy Chief. There's a wealth of info, knowledge and experience shared in the multitude of threads. Browse around and see what interesting stuff you can find. By all means post away when the desire strikes you, especially if you have questions (provide as much detail/info as possible and pictures truly help)... With all the great folks here, generally someone will respond in no time at all. Please make yourself at home!

PLEASE put at least your general location in your profile (even though it's part of your screen name). It could be very important if/when you ask for or offer help or advice. You know, climate issues and such. I recommend at least your state as most folks won't be able to figure out where if you put anything more specific (county, town, street, etc) by itself. Old folks like me :old will never remember & look there first. To add it, mouse hover over Account top right and a drop down will appear. Click on Personal Details and scan down. You'll see the spot for Location. Then go to the bottom and save changes. Thanks! Hope you enjoy the site!

G'Day from down under idahoforrest :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
