Hi my name is Donna, and my boyfriend and I recently decided to get chickens. We already raise Mascovy Ducks, and we built this huge pen for them, and thought let's try chickens too. We like the idea of having fresh eggs and chickens to eat, and knowing how they are fed and raised is a big plus. So, in March we bought 10 Buff Orpingtons. My boyfriend grew up on a farm, and still lives on the land that he grew up on. He has 70 acres. He is more experienced at this then I am, but I am learning. I found this site, when I googled a question about the laws of selling our eggs when the chickens start laying, and selling the chickens and ducks. This site came up in the search. I found a lot of interesting things on here, and I really like the site. I am retired, so I have lots of time to take care of our fowl. I love being outside and we have a pretty large garden we do each season. I am actually new to all this country girl stuff, my I thorughly enjoy it. I also enjoy running, cooking, and baking. I lost my husband 3 years ago, and a friend, we both had for 30+ years, who lost his spouse in 2010, well we became closer, and now here we are raising chickens. ;-) So there you have it. Look forward to learning a lot about our chickens.
