I have 2 buff Orpingtons - they are just about 6 weeks old and so soft! They love to perch on my arm. I have other chicks that just want to perch on my head! (I do not let them - poopy feet! Ew!) so it's nice to have some calm ones that will sit on my arm and like to be petted.

Free range or not... since you want them as pets, I'd suggest not. Have them in a predator proof coop/run. Too many things want to eat chickens :(

Thank you everyone! My husband has built me a very large fenced area for my girls and I am amazed at how they all go right into the coop, 9pm every night! We put a door on that locks so we lock them up at night it’s very secure. We have the two dogs that are very protective also, I am hoping having the dogs scent around will help keep predictors away. So my next question good treats that will also be good for them? And how do you give them? Just throw them in the area where they are or should food always be in the feeders?
