Hi,
My name is Gail and we have had chickens for 6 years now. My husband and I have 8 Australorps, 1 unknown breed, 10 Sapphire Gems, and our rooster is half Australorp/half unknown. We also have 10 Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats and a couple Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dogs. Our favorite aspect is knowing where our meat comes from and how it's been treated, although we have yet to butcher a chicken. We found BYC online when we first got chickens because we're always looking for info on breeds, natural disease prevention, behavioral issues and oddities.

Our other hobbies include studying the bible, All of it, and learning what Jesus/Yeshua really meant. We also enjoy taking pictures of our beautiful Texas landscape and meeting/sharing with others who have similar interests.

Anyone else out there who lives in west Texas or would be interested in fellowshipping with us?

Hello!

We have some critters in common -- my menagerie includes a pair of Sapphire Gems, Nigerian and Nigerian cross goats and a Great Pyrenees. I was not keen on getting the Sapphire Gems, but I have been pleasantly surprised by their demeanor and beautiful coloring.

Hope you find some like-minded folks near you in Texas; I am up in windy, northern Iowa.

Welcome, GailW!

Hi Gail. I'm in Kansas. I have hundreds of birds...A hobby gone wild, and some Scottish Highland cattle. I also raise Great Pyrenees. They are awesome dogs. I'm with you on studying the bible. I was raised more in church than out and have been around it most of my life. I am in my 60s and finally the light went off and I'm really enjoying the stories in the bible. I think I was exposed to the fire and brimstone type preaching, and finally can just enjoy the word.
