OK, I read all those questions that new members could use to introduce themselves but honestly there are way too many questions for this ADHD Chicken owner to answer.
So I'll just do a short intro of my own.
I just purchased my first house on my own in April 2019, I am 59 and married but wanted to buy this myself. And since my husband is not ready to retire he said what the hell, fine with me. (He'll be ready to retire once I have the house set up the way I want it) The home I purchased is in Virginia on the eastern shore. I have moved down here from the North Shore of Massachusetts. And yes I moved because I am ready to live a slower and quieter life. My daughter bought me 8 chicks once I moved here. As it turned out the 3 black chicks were all roosters. The rest were hens I finally got rid of the two extra roosters and so now I have one large and very loud black rooster, 2 Rhode Island Reds, and 3 leghorns. One of these leghorn hens thinks she is a pigeon, She loves to fly high and hang out in this one large tree that has a wide V area in the trunk. I lived on a farm when I was younger then moved to the suburbs north of Boston with my family when I was 13. I am a mid-1970's through the 1980's peacetime disabled veteran.
This home I purchased I am turning it into a small working farm. And then I am going to look into offering therapeutic horseback riding and also therapeutic easy days on a small farm to those that need it. And that means disabled Vets, and also children and teenagers with behavioral needs, especially if they come from a family that cannot afford this type of recommended and needed therapy for their child.
So raising these chickens is just the beginning of the dream I have always had if I ever owned a farm.
I truly am enjoying learning about all the new ideas some members offer. especially because it can help other members be successful at owning and raising chickens for those individuals who are new to this endeavor.
