Hello!

I have been lurking the forums for a bit and decided it is time to join! I am a younger farmer. Me and my wife were lucky enough to be able to purchase an organic crop farm last year, and this year we have been adding livestock to grow our farming operation. We own 120 acres but farm about 70 as organic. We are currently raising cattle, chickens, and ducks.

I am very interested in pastured poultry and raising birds for meat. My wife is interested in hens for eggs, so I feel as if we have a good balance. We have rotational grazing plans with our cattle and chickens for this coming year. We have been raising hens successfully for 4 years now. This year we raised and processed cornish cross to fill our freezer. With enough research, everything went great!!

I am looking forward to learn more and share ideas with everyone! We are planning on expanding our organic chicken operation and look forward to ideas along the way!

Do you currently have any White Rocks? They are the best dual purpose chickens. Bourbon Red turkeys are also a good choice. They are a good size, sweet and good mothers. If you get some in the spring, you can process one for a small but delicious Thanksgiving.
Share photos when you can!

Your operation sounds interesting, I hope you'll share more information with us as you settle into BYC. In case you haven't found it yet, here's a link to the Meat Bird forum:

It's nice to have you here with us!
