I've been raising chickens in my backyard for about a month now. I have recently acquired 8 silkies, I lost one the day after I got them so I have 4 roosters and 3 hens.
They are fun to watch and I'm learning about them as I go. I have 1 hen who was acting sickly yesterday and the other chickens were pecking at her. One of the hens would run into the sides of the pen trying to get at her. (I had put the sickly one in the pen, letting the other ones out to play). I finally had to put the one in a carrier by herself overnight to keep her safe. Is this behavior normal? I was under the impression that Silkies were a gentle breed. I need help!
I know I need to give away 3 of the roosters but they didn't seem interested until the hen started attacking the sickly one.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply.
As you can guess, the chickens and I are still learning about each other. I do know the man that I purchased the Silkies from had them in the coop with other breeds and they seemed to be doing well. They are a intriguing breed to say the least.
