Hi,
I’ve just joined backyard chickens. I currently don’t have any chickens, but I’m starting to build my coop and run.
I have taken the steps to purchase 5-6 week old chicks for May of 2021. I must buy a minimum of 6 with a minimum of 3 for each breed from my local feed store. I have decided on 3 Midnight Majesty Marans and I'm debating between Lavender Orps and Barred Plymouth Rock for my second breed. I’m worried the LO may be too timid for the MMM or that they may be too broody. I do like the looks and the temperament of what I have researched.
My Parent’s neighbours had chickens and my daughter loved having them around. I like everything about chickens from being friendly companions, to having fresh eggs and garden pest control.
I enjoy organic gardening and I believe having chickens make sense to help complete my backyard ecosystem.
We have lost our two dogs A year ago and just recently. Both my daughter and I believe chickens will be the best pets/ family members to to I introduce to our family.

It's very difficult to get past losing these family members. Chickens can fill in the empty, they too can be quite affectionate if you start working with them as day olds. Some are real lap hounds! Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!
