Hi all, I'm new here. I will answer the questions below.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am not new to chickens. I grew up around chickens on my grandparents poultry farm, then my parents got chickens when I was older. My first chicken was from my Pap's chicken houses. She was a meat bird that missed the truck and was old enough to lay. I named her Henrietta.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I currently have 10 meat chickens, 3 banties (2 of them roos), 3 roos, 25 hens of various ages.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I pretty much have one of each. Lol.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Growing my own food- eggs, meat. As well as somewhere for our food scraps to go other than the trash can. We also enjoy the entertainment.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I enjoying painting, quilting, canning, gardening, camping, hiking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. So my name is Ashley. I am a domestic coordinator, a.k.a. a homemaker, housewife, stay at home mom, homesteader, homeschooler. My husband and I have 4 kiddos, ages 9 to 3 that I am blessed to stay home with and love on and homeschool. In addition to the chickens, we have a German Shepherd, 2 cats, 6 rabbits (and 14 baby bunnies).
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I found byc through a web search. They say it takes a village to raise children... I feel the same way about chickens. Lol.
