Hi I am a new member from Hempstead, Texas! Bought a house that had 6 hens. It was scary at first. I did not know what to expect. After a year I think I have the hang of it. However my hens aren't laying as much. First I thought it was the heat but now that it is cooler I still only maybe get one egg a day!! Sometimes two. Frustrated and not wanting to buy eggs at the store for the outrageous prices I searched and found a great somewhat local chicken farm called Blue Star Chickens in Industry, Texas about 40 minutes from me. She had beautiful birds. Although I was wanting some Easter Eggers (which she was sold out of) I did get 2 beautiful Gold Rhode Island or Cinnamon Queen. Very nice. So now I have 7 chickens. Two cats (one inside/one outside), a African Grey Parrot, a germen Shepard, and two longhorns! I stay busy.

Welcome and best wishes from chilly New England! What an interesting way to get chickens. The age of your chickens may have something to do with the number of eggs you are getting. Also the type of chickens. Chickens' egg production drops off as they age, and high production types drop faster.

What a very nice menagerie you have started! Congratulations and all the best. Welcome to BYC!
