New Member!

Hello! I’m a new member today! I’m 29 and bought my parents house earlier this Summer and have acquired their flock of a small mixture of breeds. I’ve joined this community to learn from all of your experiences and use suggestions that can help me keep a happy flock.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- I helped raised chicks when my mom first bought several in 2019 for 1 year until I moved. Within that year we learned one was a rooster and my mom kept him for about 2 years. Since then 2 hens died (1 was found outside the coop with feathers and guts everywhere and 1 was found dead inside the coop). In 2021, 4 eggs hatched inside the coop and 1 was found to be a rooster. Since then, both roosters were removed and the hen whom which the chicks came from was rehomed. (I assume she was the mom since the chicks followed her everywhere, I could be wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️)

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- I had 9 yesterday and 8 as of today.😔

(3) What breeds do you have?

- I’m not familiar with what breeds they each are. I do know we used to have 2 Silkies!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- I love taking care of and spending time with chickens and all animals. I also love fresh eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

- I love going to the beach, taking my dog on walks in parks and exploring outdoors. I have no kids but I like taking my nieces and nephews out to an arcade, zoo, movie, or museum every other weekend. I also have a habit with online shopping and finding reasons to buy stuff at the Tractor Supply Store. 😂

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
- As mentioned in the beginning of my post, I recently bought my parents house on a quarter acre property in the Pacific NW. My parents are now retired and have bought their dream home in the Philippines; their country of birth. 💖🇵🇭. I live with my boyfriend of 12 years, no human kids but have a 3 year old chihuahua mix dog (Ladybird) and 2 cats. One of which is a 12 year old maine coon tabby (Frankie) and the other is our acquired 1 or 2 year old of what I think is a bombay (Tito). I work from home as a pharmacy appeals specialist lead for a large health insurance company.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
- I found this community from searching my questions about my recently found deceased hen on Google (I’ll be making a new post soon). I’m here to be educated about how to maintain a happy flock by learning by everyones’s experience/expertise. 😁

The attached images are my animals. The rooster was the first we had and for the longest in the flock, which we no longer have and the 2nd rooster that hatched is not in the photos but we also no longer have. The white hen is one we recently re-homed and her 2 chicks are grown today! And the last few pictures are from today 🥰. I am excited to be apart of this community and learn from each and every one of you! I love my chickens and love seeing them happy and healthy. The cutest thing is how they run w/ their cute waddle in their feet and wings, hehe!

Thank you all for taking the time to read my post and yeah! Happy sunny Saturday!!
Welcome to BYC!!
