Hey Party People! I’ve used this site countless times for education as I’ve learned on how to care for our chickens, ducks and now geese, so I finally decided to join so I can post to ask questions. Here is a little bit about me.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had chickens when I was about 10-12 as my family would get some of the “baby chicks” that had grown up from a local petting zoo when it closed for the season, but this is the first time as an adult. We got our first chickens about 6 years ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We are down to 11 chickens now darn bald eagle! We also have 3 ducks and 2 geese.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We have black copper maran, Easter eeger, cream crested legbar, Australorp, and some that are home breed that is a mix of all of those lol. The ducks we have are all grey runners and the geese are Chinese geese, one is white and one is grey.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
While free eggs are always nice, I love have dumb animals that run to greet me every time they see me. I know they just want food, but I pretend it’s because they love me.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love to garden even though I’m not that great at it yet.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I want to all of the animals, but so far just a dog, 4 cats, 3 goats, a hedgehog and a ferral peacock that we call Kevin are part of the farm.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found this site when researching various aspects of how to care for our chickens when we first got them. Then anything random that pops up this is the first place we go. I finally had a very specific question that Google could not answer and I knew this was the right place to go.
