Hi Everyone, Not new to chickens. Have had them for some years. Didnt know they were such characters until I had them. Bought some new pullets and 2 roos chicks .
Just had a Crow Eat all but the Roo.He escaped into a pen with a top screen. Never had this probem in all my years raising chix. So add CROWS to the preditor list. It was caught red handed at the neighbors packing off one of hers from the barn. These were my new Barnevelders. You never stop learning. Going to start over. Meanwhile the surviving Roo has a pullet buddy a a Buckeye Pullet both are safely in a screened in pen. The rest of the flock is fine and wasn't targeted...too big. Enough Said.....We live on a farm...Im' retired but have a few beef cows. Trying to garden. Love where I live and find chickens pretty good therapy.

Wow, that is crazy. I'm so sorry that happened to your new chicks, and you're right, it's a good warning probably for many. Sounds like you have some great birds though, I know you will find a way to move forward.

I'm also in NJ, just started up with chickens last year, and I'm hooked. Between watching the birds interact, and just getting the sunshine and fresh air, I agree that taking care of them is wonderful therapy. :) Welcome!

Welcome!
I'm dreadfully sorry to hear about your losses. I'm dealing with a crow problem myself.
