Was researching crossbreed I have a Rhode Island red rooster that’s been mating with barred rocks And black astrolorps to see what color eggs and chickens I will get. So far haven’t got all the answers but this site is helping!
A Rhode Island red over barred rock should give you a red sexlink. The eggs will be a medium brown color. Are you breeding the same rooster to your australorp hens?

I have a RIR cross roo (in my profile picture). I really like the chicks he gives me. The replies above are what I'd expect, too. Australorps are one of my favorite breeds, and you can't go wrong with Barred Rocks, either. I think it should give you a nice mix. I have a nice all black bird, but in the sun you can see just a little bit of red leakage in her feathers, I really enjoy her.

I hope if/when your chicks hatch you can show us some pictures! We definitely wouldn't turn down any pictures you have now!

Hello and welcome to BYC!
The RIR x BR should be sex-linked. Females will be black and males will be black with barring. The RIR x Lorp cross will also give you black chicks, but they will not be sex-linked. Female offspring from both pairings will lay brown eggs.
Could you explain the definition of what it means when they are sex linked or not been about 40 years since I took genetics in high school

Thank you that’s helpful. I also have a couple white Leghorn hens

Sex linked is a result of crossbreeding certain breeds or colors to produce chicks that can be differentiated between male and female at hatch just by looking at the down. Your crossing will produce what's known as a Black Sex Link. Male chicks will have a white dot on their heads at hatch and will grow to have barred feathers. Females will be black. As adults, this is what the offspring should look like. OIP (1).jpg
