I am new around here today. My son-in-law gifted me 5 chickens for Mother's Day a couple of years ago since eggs were getting so expensive. We started with 2 silver Ameraucana's, 2 orange Sexlinks, and had 1 Silverlink. The Silverlink was very broody a couple of summers ago so we put two chicks under her and she loved them as her own. Unfortunately the mom passed away that summer after the chicks were semi grown up. My brother-in-law rescued a chicken last year so I now have 7 chickens.
We had fun building a nice chicken pen for them and they free range around it during the day. We used to let them free range in our backyard, but that got a bit messy so we fenced them off on the side of our house. We live in a subdivision so we don't have a lot of yard for them but they seem to love it.
We enjoy having chickens. It's been an adventure, that's for sure.
Thanks,
