Time to introduce myself I guess. I've been lurking for months absorbing all of your chicken insight. DH brought home an incubator and 9 eggs back in May. Eggs hatched 1 June. Most of our chicks turned out to be roo's so four were re-homed. We lost a young hen to a hawk and one to our dog. That left us with two roo's and a hen. DH picked up another 10 hens which appeared to arrive with cocidiosis. They have been treated (one died) and all appear to be healthy and integrated into the "flock". We got our first egg yesterday 12/28.
All of the eggs/and chickens were sold as Black Copper Marans. While they all look like BCM's complete with the "furry feet" the eggs (both of them) that we've gotten are very light colored. Not white but not brown much less chocolate colored.
So we have been raising chickens now for about seven months. Love them. We also have dogs, cats, and five aquariums (fresh and brackish). I thought I was a fish nut till we got the cheeps. They are a hoot.
Anyway, love this site and all the chicken chatter.
