Hi everyone!!!! My name is Tammy and I'm new to the forum and to the bird community .... First question
My mallard female had 4 eggs in her nest. My husband noticed the birds bothering her and disturbing the nest and then found one of the eggs broken. He tried to move her and her nest into the horse stall (it was empty) to protect her. Well she wasn't having it. The minute he closed the stall and turned his back ... She flew out the window. He never saw her so she was off the nest for about 14 hours. That night it was unseasonably cold and the eggs were cold to the touch. I moved the nest back to the original spot and she immediately got back on the nest. Does anyone think the eggs survived? Also one of the eggs has gray patches . Any ideas?

! Great to have you with us! I've no idea on your predicament...you might try the duck thread or the incubating/hatching threads - both linked below. Good luck to you!

she needs to be isolated from the others so they don't trash the rest of her eggs or kill any that hatch.

I'm so new at this .... Where should I relocate her? We tried in the horse stall but she wasn't having it. We put down straw and hay and food and water ...the minute my husband turned around she flew out the window. At this point we aren't sure the eggs are viable.
