Hello! My name is Christine and I'm from Northern California (Paradise - yes, it's really called Paradise). After several years of wanting chicks, and after having a chicken coop built two years ago, I finally brought home five chicks a few weeks ago. I have two Barred Rock, one Rhode Island Red, and two Americaunas. I love watching them! And they're getting really big. I plan to put them out in our fenced orchard in about two weeks. I also plan to lock them in their coop at night due to living on twenty acres with lots of foxes, coyotes, etc. roaming around. Personally, I've been married 25 years and have two great sons, ages 18 and 20. Look forward to getting great tips, etc. for a chicken newbie!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you have a lovely flock! Yes, it is always advised to lock the birds up in the coop at night no matter where you live. EVERYTHING eats chickens! LOL They are dinner for nearly every creature on the planet. So you can never be too safe with them.

Make yourself at home and if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. And we do welcome you to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I lived for 7 years in the Corning area around three decades ago and have been to Paradise on several occasions. In fact, the best dog we ever had, we got as a puppy in Paradise. She was a AKC red Chow Chow whose with parents had been successful in dog shows, and we named her Muffet Moo Kim. She guarded our chickens with a vengeance, and she was great with kids. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
