Hi there! My name is Angie. My husband, Dustin, and I live about 30 minutes east of Kansas City, MO. We live on 3 acres, with a nice sized pond. We have 5 New Hampshires (1 rooster), 4 Barred Rocks, and 4 Easter Eggers (1 rooster). We bought them from a hatchery about 1 1/2 years ago. My husband built a very nice tractor for them, so we could work our property for us. We love watching them free range in the evenings (weather permitting of course)! We also have a male/female Rouen couple. We received them this summer from some family who thought it'd be a good idea to buy chicks for Easter. Surprise.... they grow! ;) I just love watching them on the pond! They are 99% self sufficient. They are totally free range, foraging for themselves. We only put out a little bird seed to supplement them. They refuse to eat anything else we give them. We plan on hatching our first round of chicken and duck eggs this coming year. Wish us luck! We love being outdoors, so that is where you will find us most of the time. My husband does work a white collar job in finances. I am fortunate enough to stay home with our two children, Coleman, who's 4 1/2, and Charlotte, who's 2. They love the birds too! We also have 2 dogs, Maggie who's a 9 year old pit mix, and Gracie who's a 4 month old Chi/Rat Terrier mix. Our Pit Bull is GREAT with our flock. She is a natural guard dog. Our Chihuahua, not so much. We are also planning on getting some Nigerian Dwarf Goats in the next year or so. I can't wait for that adventure!

Glad you joined us. Hope you get some "you time" with all you must be tending to.

Welcome to BYC, Angie. Glad you decided to join our flock. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Our Easter Eggers are her favorites. She loves their colored eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock (and your children).

Welcome. I to am new to this site and everyone here is very helpful and loving. Good luck on the hatch and new animals.
