Hello from lower Alabama. I started my flock in April with four 2-day old biddies. After losing three, I bought four more but bought pullets this time, which were much easier to get started.
I have two marans, two cochins and one Orpington now. Only the Orp's name is "DQ" for Drama Queen. I named her that because she freaks out everytime I introduce something new. She is hilarious! Even though I probably shouldn't name them, the marans are Janet and Jane, named after my identical twin friends with the same names.
Raising chickens has had my interest for a couple of years now and I finally got the project up and running. We had record breaking rainfall last week and the poor chickens haven't seen any dust in quite a few days, but they are being very good sports about the whole thing.
Any suggestions for chicks who are doomed to a muddy run until the thing dries out?
Thanks.
