Hello everyone!
My Silkie mix hen, Snowbell, has been broody going on two months now. Finally, about three weeks ago, I caved and got a dozen eggs for her to hatch (I don't have a rooster).
She sat on them beautifully, and managed to hatch nine of the ten that were fertile. Throughout her sitting, she would steal eggs from the other hens to sit on as well, but I didn't think anything of it.
Today, I went to check on her and found her in the coop sitting on all of her babies- and yet another stolen egg.
I'm worried that she'll be so caught up with sitting on her "new" eggs that she won't focus on the babies, so I gave them a small separate pen right beside the coop.
I don't think she's uninterested in the chicks- she talks to them, gets very concerned when they're separated, and fluffs up and encourages them to get under her. I'm hoping that keeping her away from eggs will help.
