I got my first chickens in 2003 when Bush decided to invade Iraq. I decided I couldn't watch the news anymore, and wanted to put my energy into something positive. I started with 8 day old chicks. One died on the way home, another died at 5 weeks, the other 6 were successfully raised in the bathtub until they were ready to go out to the coop. One of those 6, Sadie, is still alive and healthy.
I now have 8 chickens, Fonzie the alpha rooster, Blondie the teenaged rooster, and the girls.
Maud is now broody, and I am getting 10 eggs from a close farmer to satisfy her needs and mine.
