Ro: Octagenarian, married 61 years, 8 children, 19 grands, 8 greats. Had chickens as a child, took a 70 year hiatus and now have 7 "Golden Reds" as of 9/2015. These 7 lovely ladies are free-range, produce pretty light brown eggs which are divvied up among our large family. Enjoy gardening, mostly veggies. Coop is on a trailer bed so it can be towed around our 1 1/2 acres. Need some advice on lightweight fencing to go around coop when I need to keep them captive instead of free-ranging.

Finally someone older than me. Only 74 and only married 52 years here. 'Lightweight' fencing is a problem in that if it is truly lightweight it provides no protection from predators. Hardware cloth pens with a top, skirt, and even electric fencing to repel predators would be my choice. Good luck with whatever you decide upon.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! That's quite some years you have had away from chicken keeping! It sounds like you are really enjoying your 7 ladies that you have now. Sourland has left you some good advice on your light weight run. You might Laos like to pop by the coop and run section of the forum ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/9/coop-amp-run-design-construction-amp-maintenance

Good luck for the future and enjoy BYC :frow

How nice you're back to chickens! It sounds like you are enjoying them (and those eggs).

Good luck with your flock, it's nice to have you here!
