After rescuing Nubian goats, we thought we’d add a few hens to our lil farm, so we settled on Golden Comets. We built a hen house that’s 8x8 and a run that’s 10x30 next to our corral that is ready for the chickens. Right now our hens are 5 months old and live in a 5x3 enclosed mini coop; but seem ready to get out and explore our property. We plan to allow the chickens to be free range, but want them to have a large enough sanctuary to fly into that is away from our curious goats and four Old English Sheepdogs. We’ve learned a lot about our hens, but feel there is always more to know, which is why a coworker told me about this website.

Hello and welcome to BYC

Here’s a link to the Articles section - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/ There you’ll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping chickens - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs.

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive
