So, picked up our first chickens from the post office this morning. All 5-6 weeks old. Two Barred Rock and Two Ester Eggers. Only had a few minutes to get them settled in. I put them in the pen, one by one, and touched their beaks to the nipple waterer. They all shot over to the food as soon as I put them in. I went home at lunch to check on them. I had been a little concerned about them figuring out the waterer. They apparently figured it out, or were already familiar, since the water level had dropped 2". With the food, half of it was gone. So, they are eating and drinking. I have them in a run extension I built, but with a partition, to keep them in a 4x4 area. I will put them in the coop in the yard in a couple of weeks.
