I just started raising chickens the beginning of this year. I currently have Golden Laced Wyandotte, 1 hen and 3 roosters, Ameraucana, no hens 4 roosters, Cinnamon Queens, 6 hens no roosters, and 5 chicks I'm not sure of the sex yet so I don't really want to bring up a discussion quite yet. I spend an unnatural amount of time with my birds, I also have 2 Mallard rescues. So far I've survived some of the darker parts of raising chickens, 2 dog attacks, and 3 scavenger attacks. That amount of death was mentally draining for me so we built a better coop and I've got the run tighter than Fort Knox. 5 of the Mallards were killed, 1 drowned itself in the dark it was so scared and the other 4 were pulled through the chicken train through 2 layers of carpet with boards lain on top of that. I need a safe place to discuss these things, and a place I can ask questions and find good answers from experts like yourselves and compare notes with newbies like myself. Its not all dark, I have 1 layer and she is doing a fabulous job so far and she is definitely going to be around for awhile.
it's heartbreaking to lose them especially to predators. This is definitely a safe space to talk and get help with keeping your flock safe. Make yourself at home here and ask as many questions as needed.
