You live in town and get possums. I live so far out in the boondocks they pump sunshine into us and not a single possum! What's wrong with this equation?!?
All I have are the dillos and they're cute and all, but they lack the cuddle factor.
Oh, I have something you don't have....the bobcat hybrid. Poor old thang, his crying breaks my heart and mean ol' Killer Kitty won't share her food with him. Pssst, don't tell my SO about the bowl of food I leave for him at the corner of the yard where he hangs out.
No way Grits, your secret is safe with me!!! Yep, this is a second possum, a smaller, cuter, younger version!!! So much building around here guess they have no where else to live but in neighborhoods. Didn't see it last night, my old backyard dog probably scared a year or two off it's life and it wont go back there again. Still have to feed the outside cat thought..not the bobcat variety, lol!!, but a big orange tabby, so there is always cat food on the porch and apparently that is a favorite possum cuisine!!!
Possums can and do kill poultry. I keep my coop locked up at night. My neighbor used to raise chickens and pheasants. He had all sorts of trouble with killer possums. They climb right up on to the roosts at night and take them. Some particularly greedy ones learn that the combs are the best and eat only that and move on to the next. Yes, they are scavengers, but they are also opportunists. And a sleeping chicken on a roost is a pretty easy opportunity. DH shot one in the hay barn last night. We caught it eating the cat food. Possums also carry a disease that is deadly to horses. If they poop in the hay and a horse eats it, the horse can contract a devastating disease called epm. So to all of you people that like to trap and relocate, please think of the people that will be inheriting your problem.
