I've been interested in keeping a few chickens for a while, and now that I'm moved into a new home, I'm doing more serious research and hoping to get started this spring.
I have knowledge with keeping chickens and some hands-on experience, as well as from when I was in college - my minor was Animal Science at Ohio State. I took some poultry husbandry classes as part of that, and in one of them we raised chickens and ducks from eggs to laying/slaughter.
Lately I've heard about people keeping chickens in all sorts of places - even in converted bathtubs in apartments in NYC. I'm not thinking of going that extreme, but I'd like to build a coop for 3-5 chickens in my garage. It'd be fun for me, and I know my son (age 4) would love it, and learn a lot.
Anyone else keeping layers in their garage?
