Hello,
I am very new to raising back yard birds like 3 months new and I recently bought a bird that comes from a show flock (really fluffy) and what was supposed to be a pullet that was a few weeks to a month older than my birds.
Being that I do not know how to age a new bird or any outside of counting from day one I took the owners word for it. She is a nice looking Black Orphington (no egg laying yet), where as my girls are 13 weeks old, a Wyndott, Black Sex Link and a Barred Rock which we are almost certain that she is a he!
Rooster! But we plan to keep him.
My problem is that the new girl started going after only the Barred Rock to the point he/she has taken to the top of the coop most of the time, she also pecks at and trys to keep the other girls off of the oat meal treats I give them.
Essentially she has upset the balance in my coop/run, is there any wise advise or thoughts on steps to consider that could help?
I greatly appreciate it, I have a feeling that he/she may not readily come down to eat unless I go out there and then they only want out of the run.
I am considering separating her especially if the Barred Rock is still up top. Now the owner did tell me that she may start laying around September, so that is a hopeful plus because of the eggs or give her back.
What say you folks?
Thanks, Ron
