New pullets in quarantine. Should I worm them? And how often?

I've read many of the threads on worming and on wazine. It seems that what is most frequently recommended is to treat with Wazine first, then follow up in a month with Ivermectin. I have read opinions ranging from never worm except in the most dire of circumstances to worming routinely every 6 months. I'd rather not use a bunch of unnecessary meds on my birds, but I am even more averse to seeing worms in their poop.

I was planning on worming some new pullets who are 10 weeks old. They have no sign of worms. Do most of you worm them just to be safe? And if I choose to, do I need to do the Ivermectin follow up? Or is the Wazine enough as a preventive measure?

I wouldnt worm them as a preventative. I'd worm them IF they had worms. How can I tell if they have worms? They are lethargic, eat and drink very little or not at all,not acting like a chicken should..not running around pecking,scratching etc...AND i've inspected them thoroughly for lice/mites and other problems. If you've done all that,then yes, worm them with wazine first then 2 weeks later use ivermectin pour on, or safeguard or valbazen. Remember, wormers are poisons. We dont want to poison our chickens just as a preventative. Preventatives are cayenne pepper, DE added to their feed,not poisons.
