I purchased 10 Black Austrolop pullets and a rooster 9 days ago and moved them to a 10x10 coop with a big run and no lights, the first day i gathered 5 eggs, 7 more the next day and only 1 or none since, i have read that hens moved to a new coop will stop laying for some time after being moved and i was wondering if this is what is happening and if so how long before laying will pick up or will i have to wait till spring for eggs? The pullets are 7 months old and the previous owner stated they started to lay mid September. Thank you for any answers.

It could be the move or the daylight hours. Some pullets will lay through their first winter without supplemental light, others won't.

If you don't want to wait it out you can add light and see if they start laying. I think it's 14 hrs of light. Don't quote me on that number... but I think that's it.

I think that you have answered your own question. The eggs laid on days 1 and 2 were already in development in the reproductive tract. They may not resume laying until spring, or since they are young birds they will hopefully start sooner.

Any stress, and moving to a new place is a very big stressor, will change laying behavior. Good food, and I'd use an all-flock, not layer, for the nutrition, with separate oyster shell, and consider a light on 4am to 8am every morning too. They may start laying in a few weeks, or much later, only they know for sure. Mary
