Hi everyone! Wow I am new here!! I have had chickens now for two years and recently this past weekend I acquired some quail! I think they’re Coturnix?? Not sure. Don’t know anything about them.
Anyways, I’ve got seven. One male and six females. They are all bout six weeks old except for one, a female who is about four months old. Her name is Willa and she is a terror. She wants nothing to do with us, which I read is normal with quail? But every time we come near the hutch, she runs around like crazy, pecks everyone else, she makes her face and head bleed! I also notice she is mean to the others and chases them out of the upstairs sleeping area. Whenever someone wants to lay in there she beats them up until they leave. She just is always disturbing the general peace. I fear she is stressing the others out and making it harder for them to accommodate to their new home. Is there a reason for her behavior? Is it because she’s older or because she’s from a separate place? She was by herself when I bought her. I thought this meant the others would gang up on her but so far it’s been the opposite. Is there anything I can do to help her? I feel bad that she’s terrorizing everyone else but I also feel bad because she’s hurting herself and making herself bleed! Not sure how much different they are than chickens. If anyone else has any other tips I’d love to hear them! I’m still pretty new at this! Thanks so much!!
