Hi friends!!
I would like to hear your opinions :D
I have pheasants (silver/red golden/yellow golden/reeves/melanistic) and now I have a bigger farm. Just bought 1 pair of gambel quails and 6 buttons (50%/50% males and females respectively apparently). To put them I made a cage of two floors, 120x40x40 cm. Buttons look pretty well them but i didn't knew that gambels were soooo edgy, and when i go to feed them they just fly and hitting in all the cage. What you think is the best way to keep them?. The big problem is that i have not lot of space to give them a big cage.
You have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance (Later i will post photos :D)
Best, Roy.

Hello Roy!
Do you have both types of quail in the same cage?

Hi Texas Kiki, Sorry! i forgot to explain that. Nope, buttons are downstairs and gambels upstairs. Someone told me they turn more docile with the time. But really I'm ignorant about that :(

well I have to be honest I don't keep either of these type of quail but I can tell you with my Coturnix quail the more I mess with them the better they get.

I'm guessing your will calm down with time.

Howdy Roy,

They may tame down or they may not, some of them might others not so much.
If handled more when chicks they will become 'tamer' but not really tame in the sense of the word, they will still be leary of any contact you have with them. I have found that if I keep the 'tame' ones together, that their offspring are alot more tame than their parents and each generation after become more docile.

Hi Roy, I too only have experience with Coturnix quail. I can only share what I do to make mine tame.

I raise from chicks with the brooder in my living room. This way they get used to people walking around, noise from the TV, doors banging, the dog barking and moving around them.

I only catch them when needed, I like them to associate my hand with treats and goodies. By doing this they run to me and let me pet them.

I did post a video in another thread - in a different context - but will share here too because it will illustrate what I mean - more than words. I have no idea if this will work for your birds - but it is maybe something for you to consider moving forward.

I had actually just caught and cleaned them out before the video - the reason why not all 15 are jumping at my hand. But you will see all of them are unconcerned with my presence :)
