Today I went in to do the usual chores (clean waterer and feeder, stir bedding, and say hi) and three of my 3 week olds decided to fly out of the brooder and land on me!

I am officially a roost. So funny. They hopped all over me while I did my chores and then snuggled in for a bit. So cute (aside from the poop all over my back

, but I let that go because I am just happy they found me worthy of exploration

). Now evertime I go it to do something they flutter up at me. I am thinking it could be a little overwhelming if they decide to do that as adults (expecially since there are 28 of them)

How cool!

I love it when my chicks start getting out of the brooder and investigating the rest of the bathroom. (Bathrooms are easy to clean.) Sometimes I find "evidence" of somebody having been up on the counter and inspecting the sink faucet. Or I open the door and find two chicks standing in the middle of the bath mat, looking up at me with that "busted!" expression on their beaks.

I cheer 'em on when they learn to perch and roost on the edge of the brooder. Right now, I have seven chicks who have decided they really like to roost/sleep on the once-fluffy toilet seat cover at night. Luckily I have 3 of those and just rotate 'em through the wash every two days..... The chicks used to complain when I pushed 'em off to lift the cover (this is my only bathroom), but now they anticipate that move and jump/fly back to their brooder. Or down to the floor and up to the edge of their brooder. A couple come back and sit on my legs whilst I am thus indisposed.

It gives me time to socialize with the little chatterboxes.

Yeah, I am pretty wary when they get by my head. I know how much they love shiny objects. I have one that pecked all the others eyes for the first 3 days. My daughter named her "little pecker"... hard to explain to a 4 year old that it might not be the best name... oh well... I just giggle everytime she calls her.
