Greetings All!
My name is Cooper and I’ve just entered (last summer) the wonderful world of Seramas. I started with 3 broodmates who were 4 months old (see photos): Rooster Vandross, Henny, and Clara. The hens started laying in December 2020 and suddenly I had an incubator (Brinsea mini eco) full of eggs. 6 hatched on January 30th, then another 4 a week later. Clara went broody about a week before lockdown so I brought her inside with a clutch of 5 more eggs. As the first 6 hatched I switched them with the eggs under her (and put them in the incubator) and she took to them immediately. Then 4 of those eggs hatched but she would not accept them so I set up a second brooder. Then another 5 hatched so I now have 3 brooders. I was exhausted from hatchlings (an amazing 15 chicks!) and thought I was done. Then, tragically, my beautiful Roo was killed by a hawk. I then felt it was my duty to save as many of his eggs so now I have another 12 in the incubator. It has been a whirlwind of activity, constant care and immersive learning curve. I am grateful for this forum as it has been my constant source. Thanks for all of you who share your knowledge. It has made my entry into this wonderful world far less frightening. Looking forward to the next phase and sure to have many questions. Until then ... Viva Seramas!
Cordially,
Cooper
