Hi everyone! As a new member I thought I would introduce myself :)
My name is Christina and I am an American ex-pat living in Sweden. We recently bought a house here and though we don't have a massive garden, we wanted to turn it into a vegetable/chicken/rabbit paradise :D
We got 10 silkie chicks from a local chicken farmer out in the boondocks (yes they exist in Sweden :p) and currently have them in a large brooder cage. They are 2 weeks and 3 weeks old right now and we look forward to learning more about chicken raising, egg gathering, compost creating, weed control and all the other wonderful things these chickens will bring into our lives!
Look forward to meeting you all along the way!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens Christina, it's very nice to meet you. You may like to check out the "Silkie thread." for information on the breed, etc.

Does Sweden have any regulations/restrictions on chickens- like US?
I'd love to check it out - I'll go over there now ^_^
We had to get approval from the municipality and have all our neighbors sign a paper agreeing to us having the chickens. We are only allowed to keep 5 and they have to be female, which is why the breeder allowed us to have 10 since it can take a long time and you never know which gender you're going to get

Hi Christina, it's nice to have you here!

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome! Very happy to be here ^_^ So far the experience has been great, especially for our kids who absolutely love the "peep peep" birds as my toddler calls them :D
I keep trying to guess their gender based on their "attitude" in the brooder but I have a feeling each will be a big surprise :p
