I just drove like an 2 hour away (would have been shorter but we got lost) and bought 11 young silkies, Between 2 and 3 months of age is what I was told. Before I left I was told red and black ones, so I figured red=buff and black well is black...I think I was wrong....

Here is a group shot (they are in a holding pen waiting on their new coup to be finished)

Here is a close up of a Partridge Silkie (am I correct??)

Now some of the buffs are what I would consider buff, are these ones dirty buff's or what are they???

I know the pics aren't the best, they are in a holding pen while we are finishing building their new tractor, and taken with my cell phone. If you can tell the sex of any of the birds let me know (I'm guessing it is still too early to tell, but hey ya never know!)

Very pretty colors.

Looks like buff + blue to me too. The partridge one you had a close up of looks like my partridge silkie but with a little more buff coloring. Pretty birds! Congrats on your new flock!

The ones that are both blue and buff or black and buff may be partridge--only one I could see enough if is definitely partridge. Whether the colour and pattern are correct...time will tell.

Ok so may be all are partridge, or just some and the others mutt colors

At what age should I beable to start looking for differences in hens and roos (besides crowing and eggs) And at what age do silkies usually start to crow and lay?

Don't worry... they aren't mutts! Mutts would be a mix of breeds... these are obviously pure silkies, just a mix of colors.

Partridge is a nice color mix on silkies... I don't have any anymore, but they were so pretty with their color patterns when I did.
