I'd like to propose a new stickied topic, just a single post.
It should follow this basic outline:
I Meat birds
II Dual purpose birds raised for meat
III Crosses for meat production
Section I would have a brief summary of the Cornish Crosses and Freedom Rangers (and red broilers, black broilers, whatever)
Section II would list breeds commonly used for meat (Delaware, Buckeye, Brahma, New Hampshire, Orpington, etc.) and include a brief comparison of qualities.
Section III would briefly summarize the results of some individual efforts to cross birds for meat production, mostly dual purpose x Cornish Crosses or Freedom Rangers. This would be a short section since there aren't really a whole lot of results out there, but a mention that "yes, people have thought about this and are trying" so that every newbie here (I did it it when I came) doesn't ask if it's possible.
I'd be happy to act as the editor/compiler of the entry, but I would not be the least bit insulted if some BYC official took it upon him or herself.
It just seems to me that there is a regular cycle of the same general questions asked over and over and this sort of reference would answer the basics.
