Hi to all - I've been lurking a little while and I am really enjoying the site.

I got my first chickens a year ago by accident ... I bid on 3 month old pullets at a silent auction but didn't expect to win (no one else bid

) Fortunately they came with the warming light, feeder, waterer, feed, etc. so we were basically set. They stayed in a dog crate until they were bigger and were able to move outside. We fell in love with the little girls - a light brahma, EE, and silver laced wyandotte (whom we named such great original names as "white girl" "brown girl" and "black girl"). Our friends thought we were so redneck when we talked about putting a flashlight on the back patio to attract bugs so we could watch the girls go after them :) Anyway ... those girls (plus 2 RIR and barred rocks) are in Arizona with my husband ... my job brought me to Texas and my DH wouldn't let me bring the girls with me - he fell for them too, lol.

Now I'm living back in the beautful Texas Hill Country (between Wimberley and Blanco) and I'm getting ready to start my own flock here - I love colored eggs so I hope to put together a nice set of EEs, welsummers, wyandottes, and maybe someday marans (when I can afford them :0) ... though there's so many options that I may end up with too many birds hehe

Thanks for the great info and community on the site - I hope to have time to get to "know" some of you ...

Patty
