Hi Everyone,
My name is Kathleen Spielman. I live in Boulder, CO. I grew up with a very large flock of Rhode Island Red chickens & roosters in Southern California. I've had chickens since I was born and grew up playing with them the minute I could walk. I'm now going to finally get some chickens for my family.
I have no chickens now. I'm about to purchase some. The city of Boulder will only allow 8 chickens and no roosters
I understand that though. I'm not living in the countryside that I grew up in.
I want to get 2 of each of these breads:
Australorp
Rhode Island Red
Buff Orpington
Speckled Sussex
I loved having chickens through my youth. My favorite aspects of raising chickens are that I love watching them (they can make me laugh), getting fresh eggs, watching baby chicks with their moms, the fighting between the roosters, petting them and just taking care of them.
My hobbies: Design, dancing, cooking and camping.
There are 4 in my family. I have a 9 year old son and a 4 year daughter. We have a old cat (17 years old). We hope to get two more cats once she passes away. I also want to get a dog eventually (once we get a proper backyard fence). I'm an interior designer. I do home remodels in the Boulder area. There is a lot of work doing kitchen/bathroom remodels and just rearranging the space of the old homes in the area. I love doing that!
I discovered Back Yard Chickens when we lived in Austin, TX. I built a large coop there with my dad right before we decided to move to Boulder. I brought the coop with us but it's too big for the 8 chickens we can get. Instead I got a smaller coop and the coop I built with my dad will become a club house for my kids since it was never used by chickens in Austin.
