New to backyard chicken raising

I'm Martha and my husband Rocky and I have started raising chickens. We have 11 Rhode Island Reds and 4 whites. We lost one of the white ones a day after they came. Too much stress from the trip, I suppose. But the rest are healthy and growing fast! They are now three weeks old and are a joy to watch. They seem to be skittish about being played with but I keep trying so that they will be used to me. From what I've read though, it seems to be part of their temperament. I look forward to being a part of this community!

RIR's can be assertive and independant, but usually become quite friendly. They may just be going through their silly early teens where everything is a big drama.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. Our ladies are growing and doing fantastic! It's really warm here in South Texas so I've had them out in the run and they seem to love it. We're almost done with the coop.
