Hi there!
I am new to this forum & wanted to introduce myself. I am a mom of 3 from West Texas & we are about to get 3-4 hens for our backyard.
Before I can get the girls, I need to set up a coop. I wanted to order one online (instead of brave the stores right now), and wanted to know if y’all had any recommendations!
Also, I have the choice between Cinnamon Queens & Production Reds, so any info on your experience with those is welcome!
TIA!

(I’m not sure how this ended up being linked to hatching — sorry 😐)

Edit: I am immune compromised & cannot go to the store to get the materials I need to build right now. Hence why I am ordering a coop online.

Hi, it's nice to have you here with us! I think most members will recommend you build, rather than buy, a coop. The pre-built coops aren't the sturdiest, cost too much for what you get, and don't give the flock enough room (they over state the number of birds that will fit).

Take a look at the coops members have built under the Articles tab...you'll find lots of examples of some made from sheds, old play houses, etc.).

Best wishes to you!

Also here are the answers to the intro questions:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to chickens, and I am going to get 3 or 4 as soon as I can get a coop set up!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

None yet! But up to 4 soon
(3) What breeds do you have?
I’m looking at getting either Production Reds or Cinnamon Queens
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Cultivating a sense of responsibility & homesteading in my kids. Managing a spacey environment for the chickens & controlling their diet. Also, the eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hiking, art, and volunteering

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have 3 young kids, ages 8 months to 5 years. I’m an adjunct professor and also work part-time for a small O&G company. We have a golden retriever, betta fish, & silkie guinea pig too.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

A Google search! I need help figuring out which coop I can get online that’s good quality & easy assembly

I totally appreciate what you’re saying. Unfortunately I’m immune-compromised and don’t want to risk going to the hardware store for supplies right now. So even if it’s just decent enough to last a few months, I’d rather have a coop ASAP.

I understand...stay safe!
